*Wool becomes felted by using your hands and arms to gently roll and knead the fibers into a shape. You will be moving your body in order to make felt. Also, we will be using water and soap. I use Olive Oil soap, a gently soap. Some people have allergies to soap and/or wool fibers. Please be aware both of these thing are used in this workshop and cannot be substituted.
To book a private workshop, please let us know on the contact page. We will work something out.
5 Day Workshop: Creature design in wet felting.
Beginning with just the simple fragile fiber, we will explore techniques used to combine the fibers to make a strong and almost indestructible creature. Explorations include felting with a resist* or hollow form felting, cord, pre-felt and ball making. We will construct a variety of felted parts to be used in building the body and head of your creature. We examine how thick and thin layers of wool felt differently and how these differences can be used in your work. We will also add embellishments to create visual interest, joints, eyes, hair, bones, fingers or other creature like marks.
5 Day Workshop: Sculptures in Wet Felting.
Felt is created by use it wool, heat water and agitation. We start with the actual fiber and build a surface. In this workshop you will learn how to make and combine felted parts into a strong and almost indestructible 3-D sculpture. Techniques will include hollow form felting or felting with a resist* and various methods for making cords and balls. You will learn how to make individual parts that can be combined and wet felted into other pieces at a later time. We explore how thick and thin layers of wool felt differently and how these differences can be used to create shape.
2 Day Wet Felting Workshop: Exploring and Expanding the Hollow Form.
In this two day workshop you will learn how to make three dimensional felted shapes. The technique we will use is called felting with a resist* or hollow form felting. You will learn how different fiber layouts affect the final shape of the object. We explore how thick and thin layers of wool felt differently and how these differences can be used in our work.
2 Day Wet Felting workshop using a clothes dryer.
In this 2 day workshop we will explore non-traditional felting techniques of wet felting in a clothes dryer. We will explore resist and non-resist form felting techniques. We will looking at sewing embellishments of beads, fabrics, threads, almost anything you can think of into the work during the felting process. Availability of a clothes dryer is a must for this workshop.
